Quinoa!!! How on earth do you stop it spilling over? I’d like to think I’m pretty good in the kitchen, but this I cannot master! It’s a bit like my work-life balance at the minute. All over the place!
Every time I cook Quinoa I manage to end up with a mess. No matter what type of cover I put over the bowl it spills out when I microwave it!!!!! Here is my latest disaster!!!
It got me thinking about other things that spill over and something else that’s been spilling over in my life lately.
My work life is starting to creep into my personal time. My kids are noticing. They are starting to comment with the likes of ‘I want you to play a game but you are always working’, ‘when you finish that Mummy…’.
I’ve always got the same answer ‘I’m just a little bit busy at the minute’ or ‘just let me finish this off’ and guess what I never do and now I’m feeling guilty.
What Is Work-life Balance?
I used to be really good at separating my home life and my business, my work-life balance was ok. Unfortunately at the minute I’m working at the kitchen table so it’s difficult to get away from work. I am taking steps to rectify that and hopefully will have a new office spot come September.
So yes, it’s hard sometimes to separate home and work life and with more of us working from home it becomes increasingly harder to create a clear divide between work and home. We have to realise though, and I do, that stopping this spill over is important for our mental health as well as for our family and relationships.
Separation Is Key
A mentalhealth.org survey estimates that 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem at some point in our lives. Our inability to create a work-life balance can lead to stress which can lead to burnout.
The Benefits of Work-Life Balance
When we separate our personal and work lives it can increase our productivity at work. It has been proven that working long hours is counter productive.
The major advantage of establishing a healthy separation between work and home is reducing burnout, ass well as:
?improved health and wellbeing
Just imagine how you’d feel if you could dedicate all your time to doing the things you love, to spending time with your family and friends when you want, without the stress of worrying about your work load and when it’s going to get done.
However you decide to make your work-life balance, spending time and enjoying that time with your family is important. Making the smallest amount of effort will make a big difference in their world. Time with your children, making memories together, can help build family relationships and make them stronger. These special times are ones they will always remember!!
